Discover the development of Modern Art from the early 1900s in France with Cézanne, Picasso and their contemporaries, moving on to Abstraction and Surrealism with Kandinsky, Malevich, Duchamp, Leger, Magritte, Mondrian and Dalí. We continue by looking at Post War (WW2) Modern American Art with Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol and Pop Artists, and other painters working at this time. We explore Young British Artists, including Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, then the New York City artist Basquait and the Neo-Expressionism movement, finishing with the illusive artist Banksy. Presented over two weeks, this course focuses on some of the greatest artworks of the 20th Century within their historical context, referencing the cultural and intellectual aspects and the shifts of power that influenced these artists. Ideal for those who enjoy the visual arts. All academic levels and learning abilities very welcome!
