Our Junior Drama group for 8-13 year olds has now been running for 16 years having started in January 2006 with two senior members of our youtheatre.
Participants are taken through the principles of performance, improvisation, voice and movement. Communication, concentration and commitment are essential disciplines of exciting performance and these are further explored and developed with fun drama activities and games.
Jordi Sunier is now the director of our Junior Drama group and is planning the production for summer 2023.
In June 2019, fourteen young actors performed ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu in a translation by John Minford and we were reminded in fifteen chapters of the consequences and futility of war, the skills and tactics necessary to outwit opponents and the discipline of offensives and espionage. The maturity in which the group approached this challenging piece was remarkable and skilful. Unfortunately, our 2020 and 2021 productions had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
I feel the rehearsals have really helped my confidence as an actor and as a human… it has felt like a family to me… the play went very smoothly and maybe one of the best I have ever done.– Participant
The drama workshops are the highlight of the week… The energy of the workshops seems infectious… This play, particularly, has helped their literary skills… and it encourages deep thought. They have learnt so much in the four years they has been involved. They have developed skills in acting, singing, dance and public-speaking – to name but a few.– Parent
