With great focus on Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon, this lecture looks at the Reign of Terror and the Ancient Regime, from King Louis XIV to Charles X, looking at the decadent and deadly political build up to the French Revolution and execution of King Louis XVI. Then the new order with the rule of the French Emperor Napoleon, illustrated with Rococo Art – portraits of Madame de Pompadour, Marie Antoinette and Neo-Classical Art and finishing with the French Romantics.
