To coincide with this year’s Christmas production of The Red Balloon, Jersey Arts Centre has invited writers, poets and children to respond to a single image: the humble balloon.
Floating, fragile, joyful or melancholic, a balloon can hold countless meanings. It might carry us back to childhood, mark a celebration, or drift away as a symbol of loss. Through verse, prose, poems and short stories, contributors have been asked to capture the balloon in their own words.
These responses will be displayed across our walls, transforming the gallery into a constellation of voices – playful, poignant, surprising and entirely unique. Together, they remind us that even the simplest of objects can lift the imagination.
