Guided by a mischievous grey heron, Mahito searches for his missing new stepmother in a land inhabited by both the living and the dead. The Boy and the Heron heralded Miyazaki’s return to filmmaking after ten years of retirement, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2023.
