Set in London during the Thatcher years, My Beautiful Laundrette tells the story of Omar (Gordon Warnecke), a British man of Pakistani origin, and his relationship with his childhood friend-turned-lover Johnny (Daniel Day-Lewis). As the two start a new venture as caretakers and business managers of a laundrette, they must navigate through the fraught relationships between members of the Pakistani and English communities of the time.
