Looking at the development of Modern Art from the early 1900s in France from Cezanne, Picasso and their contemporaries to the Dutch painter Mondrian and Abstract Art to Dali and Surrealism to Post War (WW2) Modern American Art with Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Warhol and Pop artists working at this time. The Young British Artists, including Damien Hirst  and Tracey Emin will be looked at, as well as the New York City artist Basquiat and Neo-Expressionism movement, finishing with the illusive artist Banksy. This is a concise Lecture series in Modern Art History showing the great artworks of the 20th Century in their historical context. With explanation of their meaning with reference to cultural and intellectual aspects and the shifts of power which influence artists with the effects of World Wars and their countries’ economy. Ideal for those who enjoy the visual arts. All academic levels and learning abilities very welcome.
