Geraint Jennings: Shakespeare, Language and Jerriais

Jersey Festival of Words

Jersey Arts Centre (Maria Ritchie Room)

Shakespeare has been an inspiration not only to writers in the English language, but also to national language and literary revivals of the 18th/19th Centuries, including the Channel Islands. The plays continue to be reinterpreted in post-colonial literatures. Looking at the recently completed Jerriais translations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest and the sonnets, Geraint Jennings will explore the background and approaches to Shakespeare in the Islands’ vernaculars.
