Encouraged by the then Price of Wales in 1978, John Blashford-Snell and the Scientific Exploration Society launched a global circumnavigation project to develop young leaders. Over 400 participants aged 17-24 from 27 nations took part in challenging projects around the world.
All this began through initiatives in Jersey and eleven young Jersey people took part. His Royal Highness was so pleased with the result that he launched Operation Raleigh that now number over 55,000 amongst its cohort.
The evening will also include an illustrated presentation by Emma Kirby, JES award winner, on her recent exploration with Raleigh International to Borneo.
