Maria Trenor / Spain / 2024 / 86 mins

Marking the 50th anniversary of Robert Wyatt’s iconic album Rock Bottom, Maria Trenor’s remarkable animated feature takes us on a psychedelic trip through a time when Bob met his partner Alif. The two young artists became immersed in the creative whirlwind of early 1970s hippie culture and covers the period of Wyatt’s transformative accident and creative genius.

Transcending biography and weaving a poetic tapestry of love and artistic creation, Rock Bottom is a hallucinatory Romeo and Juliet, navigating a world of art and altered realities. The film earned Trenor Cartoon Movie’s Director of the Year accolade, and it’s not hard to see why. It pulsates with the album’s music, brought to life through vibrant, watercolour animation.

A universal story about the transformative power of art and music.
