This exhibition is an exploration of language, representing a selection of work from the past 20 years. Like many illustrators, my fascination with images came from pictures in books and the pleasure of storytelling combining text and image.
The realisation that I could use pictures to talk about words by exploring a single word was a great discovery. An illustrator struggles not to repeat the text in the images. Here the narrative is hidden inside the word, and the pictures reveal that story, playing with overlapping literal and figurative meanings and the physical shape of the word in the type itself.
