An Open Book

Robert James Anderson

Jersey Arts Centre

Featuring Tabitha Dombroski and Juliette Hart

For multidisciplinary artist Robert James Anderson, notebooks have been at the core of a 25-year practice; a place to record, draw, reflect and create. In 2020, a crashed note-taking app on his smartphone erased over a year of writing that documented a move to a new city, a relationship, and leaving both behind, precipitating a return to pen and paper.

In this live performance, three performers will read pages from 21 years of notebooks, chosen randomly by the audience. Stunning audiovisual elements bring these unpredictable readings into full saturation. Anderson’s work has been described by critic and author Karen Wilkin as “fierce and alluring“, and this brave new piece is no exception.
