Zaire (Congo) River Expedition 50th Anniversary

  • 25 October 7pm
Jersey Arts Centre

Two Jersey adventurers will join the legendary explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell to relive their experiences, such as white water rafting on giant inflatables, during an expedition along Africa’s Congo River 50 years ago. A 165-strong international team, including those investigating ‘river blindness’, faced formidable obstacles and some hair-raising encounters with wildlife. The 1974 expedition prompted HM King Charles III to create Operations Drake and Raleigh encouraging young people to support sustainable change worldwide.

Funds raised from this event, hosted by the Jersey Scientific Exploration Society, will help create a bursary to assist Islanders seeking worthwhile projects overseas.
