Doric String Quartet + Brett Dean

Amici Artium / Festival 40 Weekend
  • 22 January 11am
2 Hrs
Jersey Arts Centre

Accompanied by Brett Dean

Firmly established as one of the leading quartets of its generation, the Doric String Quartet receives enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics across the globe. With repertoire ranging from Haydn through to Bartok, the Quartet’s schedule takes them to the leading concert halls around the world including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, Stockholm Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall and Kioi Hall Tokyo as well as regular performances at Wigmore Hall.

Brett Dean is a versatile musician. Previously he was a violist at the Berliner Philharmoniker; now he is internationally active as a chamber musician, conductor, soloist and composer. In 2007 Brett Dean was glued to his radio to listen to a performance of his own String Quartet No. 1. The musicians? None other than the Doric String Quartet. Since then, Dean and the Dorics have been engaged in a close musical alliance. In Hidden Agendas Dean has the string quartet splinter beneath a barrage of musical extremes until the ensemble finally rediscovers its unity.

Programme includes: Haydn; Quartet in F major Op. 50/5 ‘Dream’, Brett Dean; String Quartet No. 3 ‘Hidden Agendas’, Beethoven; Quintet in C Op. 29
